Looking to get an Xbox Mod Chip.... Want opinions...

things have really changed since I've modded my Xbox back 6-8 months ago. Only thing we had to worry about was whether the Xbox was v1.0 or v1.1. The Matrix was the only solder-less solution and it sucked. Ended up sending my Xbox to someone here from AT to do the dirty work of soldering a $10 cheapmod on the Xbox for me.

Xbox has been running EXCELLENT ever since. It's awesome to upload divx, mp3s, whatever you want to it.....you can also use it as an external hdd (although a little big...) for transfering data to friends' house.

Hopefully they won't. If anyone figures out how to get onto Live with modchips then cheating will kill the Live service.

[edit] BTW, you can use Live just fine with a modded XBOX, you just need one that can be turned off before signing on. The Xecuter chips are probably the most popular and they have an external on/off switch.

Ive always used Matrix, Installed maybe about 15 so far. If you dont plan to go on Xbox Live than get the Matrix, Cost about $25. Its a no solder chip.

Stay away from the X-Ecuter chips. I tried fixing a 2.3b install on a 1.5 chip and it has to be something with the chip and the model of board. There are a ton of people having the same prob. They seem to not be advancing in the proper areas also. Most chips allow you to switch banks/ disable chip by power and eject presses but these guys still have that switchgear addon. I used a Cameleon on mine and have no complaints. I'm leaning towards the simple chips now though like the apple5v. Cheap and simple and preflashed. Don't see much need for all the extra stuff.

Switchgear add-on? There is a switch to select bank 1 or bank 2 if that is what you are talking about. I mean, if you are going to have to be pressing one of the buttons on the machine anyway, what's the difference between doing that or flipping the switch?

I guess you have not read the complaints from people who have had the little wires break? Personally I would rather just push and hold the power button than having something with like 6 wires and a open pcb stuck on with double sided tape on the outside of my case. I thought they were probably a good chip untill I tried to fix my friends for him. USB power addon board, wires that have to be kept close to the board to stop interference and how about the grounding issue? The one I worked on had like 4 wires going to a ground screw. And this is supposed to be a more advance chip than my Cameleon?

XBox Media player allows you to stream from your computer. But its illegal because you need a hacked bios. The only reason Microsoft Really hates this is because people copy games to their harddrives.

What do you mean? It's been fixed since day 1.

Switch mod on, use homebrew software, switch mod off, use XBOX Live.

Any software can read every bit of the BIOS and because that is all an XBOX modchip is, it can tell if it's a modified BIOS. In can even tell what modified BIOS it is. All you have to do is switch off the modified BIOS (Or change banks to a bank flashed with a copy of the original BIOS).

System Mods is a GREAT place to buy stuff from, and probably the only place out there that I trust 100% right now. A lot of the shops are rather shady, as the XBox-scene.com forums can testify to. I just got a 2.3B Lite and had no problems soldering it in. It's all good and I'm very happy with the results.
