Speaking of PS1. I'd love to get my hands on the Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Is the 40gb BC with PS1?

Yes, all models have the same PS1 BC using software. The 40GB just doesn't play any PS2.

There aren't usually deals for PS3's. If you apply for a Sony credit card you might get $100 off your first purchase at the sonystyle website (I think. I don't remember. It may have expired). If you get it through amazon there's free shipping and no tax (depending on what state you live in).

I plan on going to Best Buy this weekend and trying to use this coupon on a ps3:

...technically it's excluded because it's a console but technically it could be included because it's a bluray player. 😉
That coupon didn't fly when a buddy of mine tried using it at 3 BB by me. The $100 off if you get the sonystyle credit card is the best deal on a PS3 right now.

I'm not sure why you would think that coupon would work, it says nothing about consoles. The only thing close would be the Blu-Ray player part but I can see why it wouldn't work.

I'll look into the sonystyle credit card too.

It does say that it excludes "Video Game Hardware & Accessories" but sometimes people get lucky.

I'm a rather active hot dealer and honestly it all comes down to the manager you talk to at the store. The best stores can have bad managers and the worst stores can even have nice managers. The majority of the time you get someone that won't budge but every once in a while they'll let something questionable slide.

If you've never tried to get your way on a Hot Deal like that before, I'd recommend expecting the worst but hoping for the best. I've gotten into escalating disagreements with Best Buy managers to the point that it has ruined my mood for the rest of the day. Bad move on my part. Best of luck to you.

I'm not going to bother. I don't like Best Buy for various reasons, I give all my business to Circuit City unless I need something ASAP and CC doesn't have them in stock. I might start a new thread but I thought i'd ask her just so I don't need to start one but I'm looking to either MLB2K8 or BLB 08 The Show whenever I do get my system. Does anyone have a preference on which is better? Reviews favor The Show but not by much.

I picked up a PS3 yesterday at circuit city, they had both the 40 & 80 gig models, I took the 40 for I don't care about
backward compatibility, for this is my first console since the Atari 400. 🙂

Well, that's why I said I'll be "trying" to use it. I know there's not a very good chance, but it's worth a shot.

BTW always check the forums and craigslist for your area.

I just got about 2 weeks a 40gb with an extra controller and 20 Blu-Rays for $425. Sold off the all the BRs but 2 and have about $200 in this PS3. This one is in the Family Room and is only used for BR playback.

I also bought a second PS3 for my office just last week. Its a 20gb model with a 160gb drive in it!! Cost me $325. Naturally this one will be used for a few games.

There are deals out there if you look and have cash in hand and ready to jump when they contact you back.

Greg

**EDIT -- I do already have 3 360s as well which is what I do most of my gaming on anyway. But with the titles coming out on PS3 this year I thought it was worth it to get the other PS3 in my office. It will still probably be 95% BR/DVD playback but to be able to play a few of the exclusive PS3 titles will be good as well.

I just got back from Circuit City about an hour ago. I hooked up the PS3 and have been amazed by it. I bought MLB 08 The Show and compared to the last Baseball game I bought for the PS1 I'm simply amazed about how much detail and how crisp the graphics are. I loaded up the Spiderman 3 disc and it looks just like my HD feed from cable. My only question is this, I can't get it to display full screen, I have the black bars on the top and bottom, is there a setting or something I can change to make it full screen? My TV is a 42" Plasma, 1080i so any help would be great. Well i'm off to enjoy it some more before my wife gets home and kills me. 🙂

Your simply seeing the original aspect ratio of the movie, you could use a zoom feature on your tv, but that would cut off what your seeing, watch it the way it is, thats how your suppose to view the movie.

Yep, beat me to it. If you try to zoom or otherwise alter the picture you are affecting the video quality. Keep it the way it is...films use different aspect ratios while TV shows in HD all use the same aspect ratio. It just takes some getting used to at first.

Thanks guys, so it like the widescreen DVD format on a 4:3 TV. Makes since. BUt just for reference, where is the zoom control? I didn't see any while looking though the options.

That should be in your TV options. Depends on what TV you have so you'll need to refer to your manual. 🙂

What kind (brand) of TV do you have? There should be a button on the remote like Aspect, or even Zoom, that allows you to do this.

Just to be a little more explicit, your TV is 16:9. But many movies are at 2.35:1, which is even wider than 16:9. So that's why there are black bars. However, the black bars would be even bigger on a 4:3 TV than on your 16:9 TV. It's perfectly normal and it's "good" that you're seeing them because that means the aspect ratio is correct

Unfortunately I don't know where the zoom features are.

Enjoy your PS3!

I never thought to check my TV remote. I'll check it out when I head back downstairs. Thanks again for all the help and advice guys.
