Who is its brewer? Go to their website and find out their North American distributor.

The brewer is Wellpark Brewery out of Scotland. They closed and supposively Bass Ale is the distributor but I have contacted them and they said they do not make Velvet. Still on the hunt!

It's not a cider but is some what like Guiness as far as smoothness. It's an ale that is sweet, full bodied with a velvety texture.

No no no.. it's a mixed drink called Velvet. Take Pear, Peach, or Apple Woodchuck and mix it half and half with Guiness. It's called Velvet. I used to make them occasionally at a bar. Try it and see. Go grab some woodchuck and guiness and mix them half and half and see if that's what you tasted before. If it close but not the right fruit texture, the try one of the other types of woodchuck alcoholic cider. If it's too heavy, then use 3/4s Bass and 1/4 woodchuck cider which is called a Red Velvet.

What you're describing is called a Black Velvet, a variant on the Black & Tan.

Old thread - but as you didn't really get an answer on it...

Tennents don't make Velvet ale anymore. Guy in my company was talking about how he used to drink it - so I googled to check it out.

I am from Glasgow.

The only ale they still do out of Wellpark is Caledonia Best. Having never tried the velvet I don't know how similar they would be but I don't mind a pint of Best. They do various other lagers as per here.

If you are just in the mood for trying new stuff give Innis and Gunn a go which I think you should be able to get fairly readily online.
