What are my options here?

AMD RX 5700 @ $350, RX 5700XT @ 400, NVidia 2060S @ ???

I don't game much at all anymore, mostly just DC stuff, did previously some mining on the RX 570 cards, but temps in summer make that unfeasible.

Should I include the possibility of 4K gaming? Is that possible on those three aforementioned cards? I don't care about RTX currently, although I could be interested in a non-proprietary version, especially if the next-gen consoles get RT of some sort.

Edit: Not a fan of "blowers". Rig is a Ryzen R5 3600, 16GB of DDR4-3600 RAM, 2x1TB NVMe SSDs in RAID-0.

Edit: Let's just say my budget is $400, the less, the better (unless price/performance is worse).

I mean, RTX is just an implementation of Direct X ray tracing APIs. The CNN upscaler is proprietary, but the actual raytracing is open.

I think you'd be even golden on RX580's in Xfire and still end up being cheaper then a anything nvidia has to offer for the performance.
You could probably find them for @ your price range even.

I mean in terms of value the RX 5700XT is the best option. It beats the RTX 2060s, in fact it's about 4-8% faster at the same price point, it's got radeon chill, it's got improved multimedia engine
cf96IBWB2r9zYZ25.jpg

and it's only 10% slower than the RTX 2070s, which costs $500, so $100 more for just 10% more performance, terrible value.

The RX 5700 is great value as well, but for just $50 you get 15% more performance, it's worth it.

If you want to game sometimes at 4k, just grab a used 1080ti for $425 or so. Best value out there with 11gb of memory.

If shopping for a new card grab a 2060 super and overclock it,best new card value and you can try some RT also. 5700 cards overclock like crap.

Even when manually overclocked to the max the 2060s is essentially tied with the reference RX 5700xt, all the while consuming up to 40W more power, surpassing the RX5700XT power draw.

Much better option would be to wait two more weeks and grab a custom RX5700xt.

if you can find a 1080ti for 425, its a no brainer...
But that's a big IF.

I don't know if I'd want an old, used, 1080ti. That's kind of like, buying a 970, when the GTX1060 came out.

I really like the RX5700(XT), I like my RX 570, for 4K UHD 2D work, and video-decoding. But I don't want a blower.

Much better option would be to wait two more weeks and grab a custom RX5700xt.

At this point, that's what I'm basically thinking.

its nothing like buying a 970 with a 1060 came out.

The 1080ti trouts head to toe with a RTX 2080.
It will lose on some, but get near even on the other.

Your comparing 2 top ends cards... not 2 mid high...

Id still take a used 1080ti for 425 dollars without even batting an eye if i needed a gpu, over getting the alternative.
That is AGAIN, IF you could find one for 425 dollars, and if its a eVGA FTW3 edition, then game over, i would be all over that card unless it was used and abused and had heavy signs of physical damage / wear.

Dont worry about 4k being 'too demanding'. I used to do it on a gtx 1070. You can bring settings down with minimal visual loss (ie, shadows, motion blur, no AA, low AO, etc). The textures, details @ 4k will more than make up for that and still maintain decent (playable) FPS. A 5700 should keep you happy, of course an XT even better. But imo 4k really shines if you have a decent size screen for it (ie, 32" and above) to flesh out all the details.

Just bought this used card a eVGA FTW3 edition, for $200 at the Flea market today. ;):D
I'll have to find cables, since my dual 2012 Yamakasi 1440p monitors only have a Dual Linked DVI-D port . Currently using XFX Double Dissipation R9 290X crossfire.

The 5700XT is good at 4k gaming. Set the game at something other than max graphical settings (for newer games) and you'll be fine.

The 5700 and 2060S are a touch too slow in 4k for my taste. Especially when you can spend 14% more ($50) for the 5700XT over the 5700 and get 10-12% better performance. The extra $50 gets you almost $50 value.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 480. I don't game much. I have a 4k monitor and TV. I'll be buying a 5700XT.

Starting to get antsy waiting for AIB RX5700XT cards. Wondering if I should snag a $269 GTX 1660ti (Gigabyte dual-fan) card. Or wait, and go full-monte with the RX5700(XT) AIB. If prices are significantly higher (like $500), that option would be above my price range, and I probably would grab a 1660ti anyways, then, and hopefully the price on those goes down, when the RX5700XT AIB cards come out.

Is it likely that the 1660ti will drop below $250? Would it be worth it then, if I eschew gaming at 4K UHD resolution?

That is what I did too.. I grabbed an EVGA GTX 1660 ti SC Ultra till the RX 5700 XT AIB cards came out.
Problem is this card plays games great at 4k so far and now I am starting to question if I really need to get an RX 5700 XT AIB now.
Also yes if you watch the 1660 ti's like a hawk you can catch a deal close to the $250 mark.
When I bought mine a week / week and a half ago it was like $269 and a $20 rebate.
So if you dont mind doing mail in rebates then these cards are pretty awesome.

OK, so you actually did what I was thinking about doing.

Interesting that you can play games at 4K on a GTX 1660ti. I guess I don't mind turning the settings down a tad.

Yeah, but I am not promising 4k at ultra settings by any means with the 1660 ti!!
I play most my games with medium to low settings using 4k and get anywhere from 30-60 fps with an average of around 45fps.
Which for me is very doable but may not be for everyone.
You can some times get a huge boost in frame rate by turning off MSAA , Motion Blurr, and turning down draw distance a bit.
Like in The Witcher 3, I went from 27-32fps to 50-55fps just turning down a few settings.
But in forza horizon 4 I get 70-100fps so I guess it depends on the game..

https://www.newegg.com/asus-geforce...Homepage_Dailydeal-_-P1_14-126-311-_-08112019

What about this Newegg daily deal? $369.99 for an Asus "TUF" RTX 2060 (non-Super, I presume), with a $50 off promo code, and a $20 MIR.

So, for me, after rebate, it would be $299.99 (AR) + $20 tax.

Edit: Reviews are mostly good, some claim as fast as a 2070ti and a 1080 when OCed, but also mention being a smaller card, and running a bit hot with loud fans.

Here's a *refurb* Gigabyte TRIPLE-FAN (!) RTX 2060, for $289.99 + $3.99 ship (+tax)
https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-2060-gv-n2060gaming-oc-6gd/p/N82E16814932185

Wondering if it wouldn't be better to just go with the refurb, for the greater number of fans. (I have a roomy ATX case.)

I think I should hold off on purchasing this month, I just dropped $150 on a pair of $30 (tempered glass!) ATX cases, and a pair of $45 Corsair 450W 80Plus Bronze PSUs. (I have some builds to complete.)

Maybe if I sell some builds, I could afford a new GPU. I think that they may continue (the GTX 2060 specifically) to get cheaper, as AIB 5700(XT) cards arrive, and NVidia is pushing their "Super" models.

Then again, there's that Vega 12 card rumored to come out, with 4GB HBM2 memory, that could be interesting, for limited uses (because of the limited VRAM capacity.)

Out of my Steam library out of all the games that support 4k you could legit run about 80% of them on a 1060 6GB, some of the less demanding games even at max settings(ie castle crashers). Yeah, they required quite a few things to be turned down in some instances, but when playing on my OLED that's frequently what I did. The latest heavy hitters also just weren't viable, you're not playing metro exodus at 4k even on very low.

With a 2060 100% are playable at 4k, most with max settings while you have to tone down a bit on a very small handful of games(most demanding obviously). If you only play the newest games it would shift things enormously obviously, but if you spend a decent chunk of time playing through games even a few years old, a 1660 ti will handle 4k if you back off a bit on the settings. The 5700 is without a doubt much faster than the 1660 ti obviously, for roughly 50% more. If you aren't gaming all that much, is it worth it to you?

2060 at $299,that's a helluva deal, comes with a couple free games too, doesn't it?
