I want to get rid of an old monitor by donating it to a school or charity (pls. don't suggest I donate it to you ;-).... Anyone ever done this and who will take them? I know the Salvation Army wont. I am in the Boston area.

Thanks!

You can usually contact the school district directly. The important thing is to get a receipt for it. You'll need it for tax purposes, to let your accounting dept take the thing off the books (or you'll pay depreciation for a while) and it will cover your @ss if the EPA ever finds the thing illegally dumped in a landfill.

I've always wondered what to do with old computers and monitors too. I know Value Village takes them for free, but then they resell them.

I work at the school district here in the IS department. We usually don't take any old computer components, you should see how many old monitors I have sitting around me at this very moment, it's nutty! I'm pretty sure it depends on the district though, but I think most of the time they won't take things like actual towers, as there is usually a standard that is maintained in order to allow for easy ghosting etc. Monitors on the other hand, unless they are like this district and have an abundance of them, I don't see why not. Just my two cents :)
