hello all,

I'm currently on the road to good health. I used to be 250 pounds (i'm six feet tall). This was in January.
I have changed my eating habits and have started doing a lot more walking and doing a lot of Dance Dance Revolution.
I'm down to 225 pounds and I've moved up two holes on my belt (the second hole feels a tad tight, but i'm working on it)

I've been reading up on a lot of nutrition sites b/c right now my bottleneck towards additional weight loss is my eating habits.
In January I ate whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. Now I stop eating after 7PM (unless i'm STARVING in which case i try to have fruit), no fried food, no fast food, no junk like that.

I read that foods like white sugar, processed white flour, and white rice ain't so good for you b/c the gluten and the small particle size of processed food makes gunk build up in your colon. So I'd like to cut down on those.

Meat is good, but i hear that most fruit and veggies have a higher amount of iron per gram or something like that (or was it higher amount of iron per calorie?).

In terms of protein, too much protein isn't good, right? Just about all foods have SOME sort of protein, so getting a good amount of protein in your diet should never be a problem, right?

I'd like to change my eating habits so that I'm eating more fruits veggies and nuts and stuff and less processed food and (*SOB*) less meat. I LOVE eating meat, but if it means my health, i'm more than willing to hold back on it.

Does anyone eat like this? What are your meal plans and how does it affect your health? Do you have more energy? Are you waking up feeling rested refreshed, and not muggy and sluggish? How are your *ahem* bowel movements? Is this diet of yours cleaning out your system thoroughlY?

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

Erm I'm sort of progressing in the opposite direction you are; want to put on ten more pounds.

What I've learned in my quest as it applies to the opposite direction is, first and foremost, that one loses weight by burning more calories than he takes in, and it follows that the best way to lose weight is to burn more calories while consuming fewer. Though, if you're burning lots of calories, you'll need to be eating healthy (carbos, proteins).

I also love meat, and the meats with the least amount of fat per nutrient goodness are chicken (if that really counts as a meat) and other fowl. Pork isn't so grand, and the best steak is sirloin. Pretty lean, tastes great. (and it's cheap-ish).

Unless I'm grossly mistaken, which might well be the case, fruit doesn't have much iron at all. Dark, leafy greens probably do.

Heh, stay away from booze; it's a killer :)

I suppose this isn't much help, but that's what I know.

Frozen vegetables are cheap and healthy, keep forever, easy to prepare.
I also had good success just the past 2 weeks (lost 5 pounds) just eating less and substituting salad for potato chips at lunch and dodging sodas and other sweetened drinks.

errr, that's still a bloody vice of mine. Soft drinks. Damn you, Snapple! Damn you, Sprite!

Are there any non-sugary beverages out there that taste good and great to have anytime? I really can't live this new lifestyle if i'm always having snapples and juices.
