Looking to convert .avi and Xvid to DVD

I don't use anything, I don't think I have ever done that, but Toast or Burn will do it.
 
AVI is just a container format like mkv, it has no bearing on the codecs used in the file. As long as you have the proper codecs installed or the DVD creating software can import them natively you should be fine.
