First is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125489

Second: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130943

There's also the 780 Lightning for $550 and an EVGA FTW at $515. Money is really too much of a concern.

Was looking at classifieds and lightnings a lot but at $550 the jump to the 780ti at $680 seems reasonable enough to strongly consider it.

Would be interested in a solid 290/x but can't find a good price without having to wait a long while.

Reason behind the purchase is wife is buying me a wedding present ($800) so I have to buy some card and there is not an option to pocket the money (oh the horror).

Res is 1080p, a wide variety of game, lots of bf4 and ff14/gw2. psu is corsair tx650

Have looked into 770 sli which would cost roughly the same as a 780ti and would be faster. Have had sli and xfire setups in the past but meh. Am open to suggestions.

The two cards you listed are in a totally different price bracket, having said that I'd say go for the first one i.e. 780Ti from Gigabyte as it's perhaps the best GPU(single) out there with plenty of room still left for overclocking backed up by rave reviews all around the web

The reason I've said the Ti is because you can upgrade your monitor to 1200/1600p in the future without having to upgrade the GPU alongside.

Yep, GTX 780 and GTX 780 Ti are completely different.

I'd go with the GTX 780 Ti. You really can't go wrong with Gigabyte, MSI, or eVGA. They are arguably the top 3 video card manufacturers for nvidia.

I'd actually look at a more reasonable comparison - the GTX 780 from EVGA or MSI for $490AR or the GTX 780 Ti for $680. I wouldn't pay a lot more for a particular custom card (i.e., the Classified) when other custom cards are available for a lot less.

FYI, the 780 Ti is about 15-20% faster than the 780, and both have similar amounts of overclocking headroom on average. You're paying about 40% more for that.

Would she get you two things, like a video card and an SSD? Or a new suit and tie?

Going with GTX 770s is not an option unless you opt for the 4GB versions which are close to $400. Which makes the MSI or EVGA $490 AR GTX 780 a better option. But hey, if your budget is $800 and you want to squeeze the most out of it, go with the 4GB GTX 770s.

Either way you go, it will be overkill for your current needs. However, I certainly would not recommend investing large amounts of $$$ into a 2GB video card, not even for 1080p. 2GB of VRAM is not very future proof, even for 1080p.

So much FUD about R9 prices out there. You can find aftertmarket R290s for 450 and aftermarket 290Xs for 580. There is no reason to spend 550 on a 780 lighting, it's been priced out of the market for a long time.

The 780ti is still arguably a good deal because it offers 15% more performance than the R9 290x. But the 290X and 290 are both faster than the 780, and cost the same and less respectively.

Asus DCU II R9 290X for 579.99
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HSY1TBK/?tag=pcpapi-20

Much faster than any 780 Lighting, aftermarket cooler, and only 29.99 over MSRP retail. A decent 780ti is gonna be another $150

The OP bought a 780Ti for $679.99, $100 more than the 290X you linked to. Not $150 like you claim, unless you're saying the Gigabyte cooler isn't decent?

Best part about the 780Ti for that price? It is in stock.

Most 290s and 290X's that are close to MSRP are either out of stock or on backorder. The ones that are in stock are ridiculously overpriced.

That asus 290x on amazon has been oos since it was listed. If I knew I was 1) going to get it within a couple weeks 2) got it at 579 and not have the order canceled as soon as they come in stock only to have the price jacked up I would have bought it.

The one on amazon is in stock, maybe you should actually click the link before you talk about the "best thing" is it being in stock.

The worst thing i suppose, is the paltry SLI performance compared to crossfire and the terrible price. But you forgot to mention that.
