Currently only have one car for me and the wife since I have a take-home work car. I may be leaving the job in the future so would like to get a second car so I'm not stuck without a car if the right opportunity arises.

Would like:
- $12,000 - $16,000
- 4-Door Sedan
- Decent Gas Mileage
- Stylish and has a little push, but doesn't have to be a speed demon
- Would rather have nothing older than 2007 or so with warranty

Is this possible? Looking at anything from Toyota to Hyundai.

Thanks!

07 accord sedan, the 4 cyl will get you around 31-34 mpg hwy and has a nice kick. if you want more power, the v6 is a speed demon for a family sedan and will nab you 26-29mpg

Just want to emphasize: Stay focused on the total price of the car, including finance charges. You don't want to be paying $200-$300/mo for 6 years, for example . . . In fact, why don't you start a car fund while you still have a company car? It will be a buyer's market for a while and it doesn't seem necessary for you to buy now.

Well, I may have underestimated my time line for a car... if a job I'm applying for goes through then it could be as early as next month that I need the car.

A low cost monthly bill would be best as it's not in my budget right now. What about leasing? I think someone told me our local Toyota dealership is doing a 0% finance deal right now so that might be something to look at.

Thanks.

Yes, Toyota is running 0% on many models right now (all dealers, not just your local one).

Financing a vehicle is generally not a good idea long-term, but you should absolutely never finance for more than 4 years. So assuming you bought a 0% Toyota, at $300/month for 48 months, your loan amount would be $14,400. That's not going to be much of a Toyota if you don't have a downpayment (read: Yaris). At 5% (say, a recent used car), you're looking at about a $13K loan amount. A quick search at CarMax for 100 miles from my location shows 40+ cars at that price range.

I'd say you're looking for a used car unless you have a sizable downpayment.

My GF has a Yaris, it has enough oomphf to get on highways and such...highway speeds it sounds great actually, you barely hear any road noise...compard to the Aveo, you get to 50 in that thing and it's like a gocart with wood wheels.

in NY it's a pretty short on-ramp onto the lie (the onramp @ springfield and lie is crazy short, ive seen cars stuck there at the end on the onramp because they couldnt merge)

I agree with you on the aveo it's loud in there!!

We would probably have around a $1000 downpayment... not much, but hopefully something.

What about like a 2007 Corolla or similar?

Was out looking at cars yesterday... not sure if these are deals or not:

2008 Corolla S (6,000 Miles) - $15,850 Perfect condition except my wife and I don't know how to drive a manual! Liked the car though.

2007 Mazda 3 (30,000 Miles) - $15,900 Looked decent. This was at our Toyota Used center, which they say they have lifetime warranty - not sure what that means.
