Looking to buy stocks online

Any recommendations on where to start trading. I'm kinda new to this so I was thinking of going with sites I've heard of but would like to get some feedback.

Maybe even sites with free money involved.

Is this for retirement investing or gambling fun?

For long-term investing, a Roth IRA at Vanguard.com, invested in a stock index mutual fund like VFINX or their Target (year) funds is a good choice.

For gambling, INGDirect has ShareBuilder with $4 trades and only $100 needed to open an account. For those with more money Scottrade is popular.
