Looking for a 17 inch TFT flat panel display for $700 or less with these specs:

600:1 contrast ratio
20 ms response time or less (don't want any chance of any ghosting in games)
wide viewable angle, 160 degrees at least
DVI and analog input

Anyone have a brand and model that fits the bill? Thanks.

600:1? Dayam I can't tell the difference between that and 500:1. yeah those are some pretty high standards you are setting there, you will probably be getting the hitachi.

Which Hitachi? Yeah, just noticed 600:1 is pretty high, I think I could do with 400:1. I was scoping out the Hitachi CML174B. Damn it looks sweet. 16 ms response time and everything else. Must get my hands on this display!!

The Viewsonic VG750 has a 25ms response time but it does have the 600:1 contrast ratio and a 160 degree viewing angle horiz/vert. Might be worth considering!

Viewsonic always marks up the spec.

Viewsonic doesn't make their monitor, those real LCD panel manufacturers (Samsung, NEC/Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Sharp, Sanyo, Toshiba LG/Philips, plus some Taiwan makers) don't have 600:1 panel, go figure.

Tom's Hardware's LCD review also pointed out one Viewsonic's spec was 500:1, then later became 600:1.
I also saw that happened from Viewsonic's web site.

read anand's review of the vg800, it will tell you about viewsonics "shady" contrast specs (pun intended)
