Looking to buy an ATV - any suggestions or comments?

I'm looking at buying an ATV and would like to know something about it first. What I'd like it for is just something to drive around in, whether it be in the grass, dirt, mud, snow, etc etc. Just want something that is fun and safe to do no matter what time of year it is.

To be honest I've never driven an ATV or snowmobile before (this coming from a 21 year old Minnesotan 😱) so it needs to be rather easy to handle and get use to. Not looking to go that fast, just want something to drive around in and have fun with on trails.

Price range would be anywhere from $1500 to $2000. Not looking to spend much more until I know I'll actually have fun with it and do use it.

Thanks 🙂

A local guy is selling a Polaris Xtreme. Not sure on the miles or price.

any comments on the atv itself?

Personally, Polaris sucks. It seems like everyone in the Twin Cities owns one tho. My friend had one and he had to replace the brakes and belt once or twice a year.

I had a 2000 Yamaha Wolverine for a while and still have my 95 Kawasaki Bayou 300 2WD. We used to have an older Suzuki 125 that was damn near indestructible.

I just bought a 2003 yamaha warrior. It's a little above your price range but you can find an older model (they've been around since 1987, I think) for what you are wanting to spend.
Along the same lines would be a Wolverine. It's engine is the same but it doesn't have a clutch and it comes stock with full time 4wd (although they make an aftermarket device that gives you the option of 2wd when you want it).

Here is a pic of mine.

Hope this helps.

safe? don't get one.
i've seen plenty of people flip them over, or slid off the side of a hilly trail and mangle themselves.

just be careful if you get one, you can get hurt easily.

I just read about ATVs the other day. In the last five years, ATV sales have gone up 40%, but ATV-related injuries requiring hospital visits went up 100% in the same period.
