I'm looking to buy a TV Tuner for my PC, I have a 22" CRT moniter so it didn't make sense to have my parents buy me a 15" TV for my room so I started looking around online. I have no experience with TV Tuners for computers, all it would need to be is compatible with DirectTV, are there any TV Tuners that could do this? (Not looking for a AIW video card or any video card for the matter)

I believe you will want a Hauppauge tuner card. You will also need an ir blaster to change the channels on the satellite box. Look for something like the PVR150 card.

I like my Hauppauge PVR 150.

I don't have Direct TV, so I can't vouch for that, but you could check the specs on the hauppauge website.

A PVR model of TV tuner has the ability to function as a VCR or TIVO(but needs no subscription).

EDIT: Heh, you guys made two more posts while I was typing.

I've seen it for less on sale, but here is one link.

I didn't want to start a new thread, if you don't mind.

Is there such thing as a wireless tv tuner? kinda like a wireless router and adapter but for TV.

Don't think so.

I too, didn't want to start a whole new topic...

What would I need to be able to hook up a PS2 or Xbox, or any RCA based product into my computer and view it real time? I've heard that most computers encode the video, so there is a 3 second delay. Is a TV tuner what I need, or no? Please help.

Don't get ATI, I have one and teh software is very clunky. I think there is this company called WINTV or WINPVR I've heard good things about it.....

Make sure you have at least 512MB of ram though, those cards could be huge resource hogs. Also it would work with Direct TV but you would have to keep the channel on the computer to 3/4/tv video and tune to the channel you want via direct tv box.

I think so. I think the card should suite you well.

You want a tuner card that uses software encoding. The cards that do hardware encoding have the delay.

I like my older ATI 8500dv card. I've recorded tons of stuff and all looks good. I usually transfer it to cd-r or dvd from the ati mpeg file.
But...there are newer, cheaper tuner cards with better chips. I myself prefer a video/tv tuner card in one but thats hard to find anymore.
I dont think any card is directv-able, other than maybe an ir thingy to change channels. Directv doesnt hook directly up to a pc tv card, other than a/v output.
It would really be nice if SOMEONE, dish, directv, someone made a pc tuner card that hooked right up to the sat dish and offered lots of features. Wonder why they havent gone that route. Directv on you pc with dual tunners, HD on-off air tuners, recording...wouldnt it be nice!

Thanks :). Hopefully these Software encoding cards aren't too much more expensive.
