Looking to buy a PCI-E card

I have a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra mobo with a 6800GT on it as of right now. I'm looking for a bit of a performance boost in games, so I figure instead of buying a new card I'll look into some PCI-E stuff. I don't have any experience whatsoever with PCI-E so I'm looking for suggestions on what to look for and/or suggestions on an expansion card.

Thanks.

7600gt for <$200 is great.

7900gt for ~$250 is your best choice... make sure you OC it. 1800xt is also great if you can find it and your PSU can support it.

1900xt for ~$380 is a great choice if you don't want to OC, but depends on your current PSU you might need a new PSU..

He has a 6800GT, so the 7600GT is almost a complete waste of money since he wants to upgrade. An X1800XT will mop the floor with the stock clocked 7900GT you'll get for $250, unless you're willing to voltmod the 7900GT, it just isn't a value proposition. X1900XT is a much better value than the X1900XTX or 7900GTX.

If you're going to do SLI now however, 2x7900GTs are a potent combination.

A 7600GT is noticably faster then then a 6800GT, but not by enough to be considered a serious GPU upgrade, a 7900GT is the cheapest good option but unless volt-modded & overclocked will be bested by an X1800XT in most games, while an X1900XT will beat it out at default speeds regardless of what you do & they overclock pretty well themselves, the only downside is in a poorly ventilated case they can be very loud.

Edit: At $199 with free Fedex shipping, that X1800XL is a pretty good deal, especially if you succeed flashing it to an XT, this would of course void the warranty though.

Thanks for the input! Really appreciate it. I have a little saving to do now but I'll probably get that X1800XL.
