I'm looking to buy a 1998 Sebring Coupe LXi. It's got ~95,000 miles on it, and the dealer wants $5800 for it. It looks to be in real good shape, except it makes a slight roar (sounds like from the right rear) when it's traveling at speed. It's not the engine/exhaust (sound doesn't change when you rev it, and it's silent when you rev it stopped). It's probably not the transmission as the sound doesn't change with gears, etc. My best guess is the right rear wheel bearing is shot.

Anyways, what are problem areas on these cars & good things to check out? We're going over to look at it again tomarrow.

Get a mechanic to check it out if you're not sure on that roar sound.

Nothing really wrong with those cars except who makes them :)

Sink that cash into your porsche :)

I'd love to, but it's for my brother ;)

Anyways, don't really have time to have a mechanic check it out 'cuz of the way this dealer is :)-/, real annoying), but he does say that he will fix it (no matter what it is) after we buy it, and give us a 6 month warranty. Sounds kinda shady to me, but the price is right & everything else seems good.

Kinda shady? You mean shady as hell :) The warranty may be about worth as much as the toilet paper I used this morning (used), but the price seems ok although i haven't run it through on edmunds or kbb.com!

Do not buy a car from a dealer that won't allow you to have the car checked out by a mechanic. And make sure you get everything in writing (the part about fixing it no matter what it is...).

Yeah if that dealer is pulling some crap about a mechanic I'd kick him in the crotch and run.

Everything will be in writing, and we'll see what we can do about having a mechanic check it out. It's not so much that he won't allow it as we just didn't have time yesterday. Gotta find someplace to take it as well as our normal mechanic closed shop a few weeks ago.
