Looking to buy a new LCD monitor... $400 budget

My aging Gateway VX920 19" CRT is starting to flake out on me, so I thought I'd join the 21st century and pick up an LCD monitor to replace it.

I am looking for something at least 20" or larger, widescreen, but no bigger than 26". It must have excellent contrast/brightness/color as I do a lot of graphic/photo editing. I also game quite a bit (HD3870 512MB GDDR4, Q6600, 4GB RAM), so a fast response time (ie no ghosting) is mandatory. Resolution up to 1920x1200 would be nice as well. Not sure what pixel pitch would be best for me. I am looking to spend anywhere from $300-$400 on a new monitor.

If any of this spec stuff doesn't jive, let me know and I'll clarify. I was told that Samsung and Dell's are good LCD monitors, so I'd like to start there if possible. Thanks! =)

Aye, I did read the LCD thread. Pretty good info in there, the OP took a lot time constructing that sticky. Anyhow, thanks for the tip. =)

what video card are you using louisssss? i would probably recommend the 24 inch version of the one lightstar just got for 1080p playback in a reasonably priced 24 inch LCD.

as for the OP, if you dont want full 1080p playback the LG227WTG that the LCD thread recommends is the best gaming monitor you can buy in a 22" form factor. if you wait until black friday to buy you might even be able to get 2 for under $450 if you're lucky :D. otherwise go with the 24 inch samsung. TN panels arent the best for photo editing, but that one is one of the better ones colors wise for that, and if you want a 1920x1200 monitor with good color quality for about $400 thats pretty much the one to get. anything better in the color quality department that is still good enough to do gaming on is going to come out to at least $300 more.

I ordered the same monitor from ebay with 25% cashback (a few months ago) and got it for ~400.00. Definitely worth it.
