My brother's wedding is coming up and he has a tv listed in his registry. I'm looking for something not too expensive, nothing more than $1200. I'm leaning towards LCD but I understand they're a little more expensive. What's the difference between Plasma and LCD? What about DLP?

Oh and which brand?

Flat panel and flat screen are not really the same thing. If you want flat panel, LCD and Plasma are it. LCD can also come in rear projection. DLP is a rear projection technology, not a flat panel.

you didnt bother to answer my question - you found it comforting to "correct" my terminology. You KNEW what I meant yet you made a pointless thread.

I wouldn't criticize those people trying to help if you still want it.

As for your questions, you need to provide more detail. What size are you looking at? Does 1080p or 720p matter? What source material will they be using? Is there any brand preference? Would they benefit from wall mounting or would they be unlikely to do that?

You mention a few things in your OP that sounds like you've done your research. Give us more information to go off of. Show us what you've been looking at or ideas you have been considering. If this is simply a plasma vs. LCD thread a google search can turn up hours of discussion on that. At least make it specific to your case.

From the lack of information in the OP I will give you a generic response.

I much prefer plasma as I find the colors much more accurate and a better picture. So I would recommend plasma over LCD. This comes down to preference though, and there are plenty of good LCD's that approach plasma territory in colors (Sony XBR's, Sammy 71/81 series, etc) but are expensive. From your $1200 budget I would look at a 42 inch plasma (you might be able to pick up a 50 inch if you look hard enough). LCD's in that range will put you at the low to mid 40 inch screen size depending on brand/quality.

I like the Kuro's personally (Pioneer, plasma) and the 4280 can be found for not too much more then that $1200 (~$1400 most likely). Second would be at Panny plasma (don't recall pricing and dont know current pricing but IIRC 50 inch 75u was in this range). After that I would go to LCD's and most likely the Sharp Aquos.

Without more info I cannot help much more then this.
