I'm looking to build another PC...one based around a dual core Pentium D, what I would like to know is what chipset from Intel and SIS support these processors.

I mainly use SIS based Gigabyte boards with my P4's that I have so I would prefer another setup like that, but would settle for an intel chipset.

so what chipsets work with the Pentium D?

go for the Intel 945 or worst case the Nvidia NF4-Ultra..
those would be my only two options, with the i945 being the 1st choice..

If you plan to overclock at all, I can only recomend the Asus P5WD2 premium or P5WD2-E premium, haven't seen good overclocks on any other boards with the pentium-d's. Make sure you get a 9xx series as the 8xx series run very very very hot. Also be sure to get decent cooling, while the 9xx series runs a good bit cooler than the 8xx, they can still get toasty when OC'd, and you need to get to around 4.2ghz to match the performance of a 2.6ghz X2.

Well, I got the Asus P5P800 SE mobo with the older 865PE because I wanted to reuse my AGP card and DDR ram. So far, I got my 805 PenD going at 3320 Ghz(20 X 166) and my next step will be to go to 3.6Ghz(20 X 180) and if that is stable, I plan on keeping it there. The 865PE series was very good and from what I've seen, switching to DDR2 right now doesnt offer enough benefits to justify the cost.

Does SIS make any chipsets to suit Dual core? I have always had good experiences with P4 based SIS chipsets (648FX and 655) and wouldn't mind another board based on one.

Here you go OP. My 4GHz PD 805 on nForce4.

I think he means P-D's with the default 200 FSB.

Yep

And most people don't like to have to use 700w power suppllies and water cooling either thats being used to get your 805 to 4ghz..when you can do better on the stock heatsink with AMD.

No, I want to add another PC to my growing collection, I haven't got any daul core based PC's yet...his PC won't serve any real purpose other than a games machine and a toy...like the other 8 that I own.

If it's going to serve no purpose, just wait a couple months for Conroe.

I know you're pro-Intel, so I won't even discuss about AMD's X2. But it's still really hard to recommend Netburst architecture, so I do really think it's worth it to wait for Conroe, because it will be leaps and bounds above the Pentium D of today.

Obviously you missed the introduction of the C1 stepping of Pentium-D's. Their power consumption is in line with an FX-60 at idle and load.

I was reffering to fuzzybabybunny, with the 805@4ghz..

Actaully I own several AMD systems and have used AMD's for over 15 years....I just not biased, I have the following

AMD64 3000+@2.5GHz, GA-K8NS PRO,ASUS 6800GT, 1GB DDR400

AMDXP 3000+@2.33GHz GA-7N400 PRO, GV-R9700PRO, 1GB DDR333

AMDXP 2800+ GA-7VAXP, GV-R9500(softmod to 9500pro), 1GB DDR333

AMDXP 2000+ GA-7VRXP, HERCULES 8500 FDX, 512MB DDR333

AMD K6-3+ 550MHz, GA-5AX, GF-1280 GF2MX, 256MB PC133

AMD K6-2+ 550MHz, GA-5AA, GA-660 TNT2M64, 128MB PC133

I also have numerous other AMD based bits and pieces but thos system I listed are my fullY functional AMD system that I have on my network at home.

I have the following Intels that are running on the same network

Intel P4 3.06GHz@3.4GHz, GA-8S648FX-L, GV-R96128XT, 1GB DDR333

Intel P4 2.66GHz@3.06Ghz, GA-8SQ800, GV-R9000PRO128, 1GB DDR333

Intel Celeron 1.3GHz@1.73Ghz, GA-6OXT-A, HERCULES GF2TI, 512MB PC133

Dual Intel Celeron 466MHz, ABIT BP6, LEADTEK GF4MX440, 512MB PC133

Intel Pentium MMX 233MHz, GA-5SG100, VOODOO 3, 128MB PC133

I just like to collect PC's that have different architectures...it's a hobby to me, hey I even a Cyrix MII PR433 as well.

as you can see I don't have anything that is daul core yet so a P-D would make an interesting PC to me...I will eventually add AMDX2's to the list as well when money permits, and when conroe comes out, I will buy one as well.

I have more space at my place then I know what to do with so I just fill it with PC's

All I am asking is what chipset are availible for the Pentium D thats all...nothing less, nothing more.

945, 955x, 975x, NF4 Intel edition, and even some 865 chipset boards such as Asus P5P800-SE, there are some Via chipset boards as well, haven't seen any SIS chipset boards with pentium-d support, but haven't really looked either.

EDIT: a quick and easy google search reveals SiS chipsets with pentium-d support..probably could even find some motherboards if you look..
