Hi all, I want to build a computer theatre here, need a soudcard that can decode dolby digital and output 6 analog channels. (I do not care for the kinds that pass the signal into your dd receiver). It must decode it through onboard hardware , my aging celeron needs all its mhz to decode the DVD video 🙂. Is there such a card? I was doing some searching on google and came up with a philips acoustic edge soundcard that can do this, i think. also i recall in the hot deals forum, there was a 20 dollar sound card that outputed 6 channels, DD. but does it decode it through hardware. ?? please help. thanks much!

The Live 5.1 and Audigy are the only cards that can decode DD, though it is in software. Any card using the proper software DVD player should be able to output 5.1 analog. Only the CL cards can decode 5.1 regardless of the DVD player used.

If you already have the receiver then use it. If you don't get a SB Audigy and mess with all those damn cables.
