Looking to buy a cheap DVD-R burner?

What's the cheapest DVD-R burner I can buy, without sacrificing a lot of quality.

Prices would be appreciated too.

Thanks in advance.

Respectfully suggest you:
1.) Go to the "Navigation" pull down menu
2.) select "Hot Deals"
3.) Once in "Hot Deals", go to the "Search" box & type in "DVD"
4.) Click the "Search" button

I do this frequently & it seems to work well😀

You can get a Cendyne/Pioneer DVD Burner for around $150 (sort of like this).

AFAIK there are no current specials but they seem to appear every 2-3 weeks, so there will probably be one next weekend.

Just go to the Hot Deals forum and search for DVD Pioneer or Cendyne next weekend.

wait for 16X burner to come out next year. hahha. If you can wait that long

Why? 4x has been out for a good long while now and there still isn't media that is inexpensive. I am still burning at 1x and 2x because the media for 1x/2x is SO much cheaper.

I can wait that long. The HD-DVD burners will be out before the standalone players, because there's a greater demand for it as a storage medium than a playback format. I'll probably jump on one of those or the 16x burners once they hit $200. Shouldn't take too long.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you burn on those?

That would be very interesting to know indeed.

What do you burn with your cd-burner?????

SVCDs, but is it really worth getting a DVD-R?

If it's for storage, do all of you seriously need that much backup storage? I was just curious.

Well I do. I have a HDTV card, and the saved programs are huge- around 8GB/hr. That's why HD-DVD would be an even better option.

I do backup some of my more watched DVDs and dvd-r is PERFECT for making a useable image.

I have a ghost image of my system with all my applications and preferences setup. It is much nicer than spanning across 4-5 cds for a backup solution.

If you have some luck and some technical skills, you can risk on an newegg.com refurb like me. $120 shipped for a Toshiba 2x drive.

I can spring for $120. I'm 0 for 1 on Newegg refurbs tho. A motherboard I purchased from them didn't last more than 3 mos.

I figure you might as well pay $30 more after rebate and get a new Pioneer A05 that staples usually has on sale.

You should wait for Lite-On's dual standard DVD+-RW which should be available within a month. Price should be under $200.

Good stuff!

BTW, are there any lower-quality DVD standards that will work on most DVD players? I've been burning soccer matches on SVCD but maybe I'll consider squeezing in 3 matches per DVD instead.

What do you mean? If your player plays SVCD it will play Video-DVDrs. You can also increase or reduce bitrate without a problem just like SVCD. SVCD is mpeg2 just like DVD-Video. They are both MPEG2 streams they are just stored in different ways on different media.
