DO NOT LABEL CD'S. if you put labels on your cd you will wear down your laser very quickly because of the added weight. Retail disks are ink only so they are not heavy enough to effect the drives, but a label not only makes your drive work harder, but also runs the risk of coming off because of the excess heat. best thing to do is use a permant marker, if you insist on a label, buy a printer that prints directly to the disk. what i do is just simply print off a sleve and put it in the hard case and write on the disk with a sharpie.

yes, that is exactly correct and also since you can never _perfectly_ center the stick on label, the higher density media like DVD can give excessive burst read errors (due to vibration) that can lead to hard errors. if you do not have good hand writing you can purchase silk screen printable media (any dvdr / cdr with a reflective mirror finsh) and use something like THIS or if you want to make fancy color covers as well as almost retail looking dvds you can get inkjet printable cd/dvd media and use modern photo printers that include a disc cradle for printing (quite a few epsons and canons)
