Looking to buy a car

So right now I have a 1993 car and I started my first job so I finally have some extra income. I am looking for a used car in the 10,000-15,000 range. I would like something sporty but still functional. I like the looks of the Mazda3, and an old WRX would be cool I think as well. 5 doors look very apealing to me but I am not sure how well they handle and such. I've never driven a Volkswagon but I think they look like good cars but are more expensive and Toyotas are also an option.

Suggestions? I drive a lot....

Go drive the ones that interest you.

Back in January I drove the Matrix, Rabbit, GTI, Mazda3, and Mazda6. The best handling of the group were the GTI and 3. I wanted the GTI, but the local dealer is terrible and I didn't trust the reliability. Bought the 3 hatchback in Feb. and absolutely love it. No regrets.

The AWD of the WRX sounds like it would be a big plus. I've never driven a AWD car before but I imagine it must control better and handle snow very well. Are the used WRXs good deals? I know Toyotas keep their value a long time but I honestly don't know much about Subarus or Mazdas

maxima. the 2002 and 2003 models have the VQ35 (255 hp) and xenon headlights. also they were built in japan iirc. very functional with room for 4 adults and plenty of trunk.
