I havent built anything in a while, so i am not familiar with the latest hardware deals and such. however, i need to build a computer for my little sister that is starting college. she will be mainly just be using it for internet and doing school work. maybe watch a movie here and there. can anyone help me with some suggestions? thanks! also, she has shown some interest in the shuttle boxes, are those a good alternative?
THANKS!

Shuttle boxes? Yes, they're nice, but fairly expensive (generally $100 or so more than a cheap case + decent motherboard, unless their prices have come way down recently).

If it's for a non-technical person, I'd recommend getting a cheap Dell system. Anything you can buy today will be fine for internet/office/DVD-watching (assuming it has a DVD-ROM drive).

Edit: you might want to check the Hot Deals forum and see if Dell has anything good on sale. Sometimes you can get some incredible deals on specific models.

If I were you, I'd jump on this deal. Just a little over $500 for a computer with flat panel, and it's more than enough power for your sister.
