Question Looking to build gaming pc, what do you think of this setup?

It's for my son who's been using our XPS8300, I put a 1050ti in it recently but think the old i5-2300 & ddr3 8gb ram isn't enough.
Already have a Thermaltake F1 Suppressor mini-itx case & CX650 — 650 Watt 80 PLUS® Bronze Certified ATX PSU

If you're getting a 500GB SSD for OS duty (appropriate, on a budget), then pick up one of the 2TB 7200RPM WD Blue (new model) HDDs for $46.99 right now at Newegg for a Steam Library drive. (Check Hot Deals forum for a link.)

Or go even bigger for the Steam drive, maybe a 4TB Toshiba X300 7200RPM HDD for $90-110.

Most of the ps4 era games started benefiting on load times, and more open world games stream in maps during gameplay, so there is some benefit from faster drives.

The 1050 ti is also a bit slow for many ps4 era games at 1080p though, so expect to use anywhere from low to max settings depending on the game.

Fyi, I'm gaming on a stock i7 860 and it's been ok until I tried any games that came out during the transition to ps5. My i7 860 and rx480 both won't cut it in any of the newer games, so I'm looking into upgrading.

I would actually look at a 1TB SSD at this point, they can often be had for not much more. I think 16GB of RAM is enough for now though. If you decide to buy a HDD for storage, I would recommend getting a quality one, and make sure it is CMR.
