Looking to build a gaming rig $1500-1800

you cant expect a reply in an hours, we have lives too.

let me help you out.
that heatsink uses 92 mm fans, might as well get a Hyper 212+ (evo or non evo) that uses 120 mm fans, itll help cool it better

i think that PSU is a little overkill.

wait till tommorow and im sure people will be more willing to help.

also, look for COMBOS

That PSU is overkill, a quality 650W PSU is enough for that system. If you absolutely must have more, at least drop to 750W instead of 850W. Only buy that 850W PSU if you are certain about the future CrossFire use.

Decent base, but you can do better:
- PSU: Overkill. This XFX 650W is more than enough for a single GPU.
- Mobo: Overkill. The P8Z68-V LE is a better deal for a single GPU machine.
- HSF: The U9P is kind of in a weird middle ground in terms of price and performance. Either go whole hog with the U12P or get a Hyper 212 EVO.
- RAM: OK, but a little high compared to this Mushkin.
- GPU: The absolute top end GPU is rarely a good buy. The 7970 is not that much faster than a 7950 but costs a lot more.

So if I switched out the 7970 with a 7950, what kind of PSU would I need to run if I intended to Crossfire sometime in the near future? And would my current setup support it?

Also, if I can get Noctua NH-U9B for $40, is Hyper 212 still better?

Most people who intend to CFX/SLI in the "near future" never end up doing it. If you're not buying 2 GPUs with the PC, don't bother getting a bigger PSU at all because chances are you will never go CFX/SLI. If you do want to get 2 GPUs right off the bat, the XFX Core 750W has plenty of juice.

As for the HSF, yeah $40 is a decent price for the U9P.
