Dont mind spending a bit extra but would like a super reliable and sturdy one.

I have :

One PCI Express x1 bus add-in card connector
One PCI Express x16 bus add-in card connector

Thanks!

Try this Mediasonic unit, instead. The Mediasonic unit uses the Renesas chipset and driver, I've found the Renesas chip and driver to be more reliable than the VIA units (like the one Burpo linked.)

If you need 4 ports or something, or you need an internal USB3.0 header (for USB3.0 case ports) you will have to look around... but my advise, based on my experience, is get one with the Renesas chipset.

I'm in a similar boat to the OP, but I'm looking for just USB 3.0 on Ubuntu 12.04 on somewhat older hardware (dell T3400 w/ C2Duo)

Does the Renesas chipset play well with linux?

I got so confused by everyone mentioning Renasas and nobody mentioning NEC that I finally did some research, & clawed my way into 2010...

Anyway if it's the same chip as on the Silverstone EC04-P, then it's fine on 14.04 & Mint 15.
