I am looking to add some more memory to my PC.I don't know what is compatible with what I aleady have in my PC.. I currently have
G.SKILL PI Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI
My motherboard is
ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
I would like to add maybe 12 more GB of memory. Can you help me find some memory that will work with what I currently have?
So . . . you have a triple-channel kit, and want to add more. Does your motherboard have six slots? I assume that is correct.
And I'm guessing that you can't find any more kits of the "Pi" (or was it "Black Pi?") RAM?
There's no certainty that what I suggest will work. But for an older dual-channel motherboard, I had a 2x2GB Black-Pi kit of DDR2-900, and I had a 2x2GB G.SKILL DDR2-1000 kit in my parts locker. I didn't really want to search for or buy any more DDR2 RAM.
The SPD and extended specs for each kit seemed to overlap: It was obvious that you could run them at any of several speeds (between maybe 800 and 950) with a single set of latency settings and the same voltage. It worked. All the stability and memory tests told me it worked just fine.
Your other option, of course, is to find a larger triple channel kit that would fit in three slots. Check the G.SKILL site in their configurator for either your own X58 motherboard or something similar. And by saying that, I'm assuming that you continue to be a loyal G.SKILL fan. Otherwise, I'd say "check ANY RAM-maker's configurator."
