Looking into doing some video editing, need help

hey, i'm looking into making a few educational cook guide videos for my restaurant, which i'm planning for them to run around 2-3 mins. now the problem is i have practically 0 knowledge about video editing (cutting clips, adding overlays, etc.). i don't have the best hardware, so i'll just be recording with my phone, where the videos are stored in .mp4 format. now my question, is there a free software out there that does .mp4 editing and quite noob-friendly?

thanks

Depends on what you are trying to do. I like virtualdub, but it only works with codecs you have installed so you'll need the particular mp4 codec that your phone needs (I use mediainfo to find this out). It can cut and merge and transcode and sharpen and do most anything you would want, and performs well on my core 2 duo laptop. http://www.virtualdub.org/
