my lcd doesn't exaclty cut it for color accuracy watching animé and such, and one of my ghetto monitors is dying (15" packard bell...from 5 years ago).

so i'm going to replace my lcd with something.

What's a decent monitor for < $500???

So far, i found a sony g420 and samsung 955 (i think that's the right model #).

suggestions???

I just bought a Samtron (Samsung) 96B for $229 plus $50 worth of rebates from OfficeDepot and Samsung.

The only thing I have with this one is at resolution of 1024x786 (the setting between 800x600 and 1280x1024 i think) you can see the physical pixels - or more accurately - tiny squares. BUT since I've never had the desire to use this lopsided resolution...I am very pleased. (Late at night though- when the old lady is sleeping - it does seem to bright...afraid I'll wake her or something)

Although it has a dot pitch of .25 I think it is well worth the $170 +tax.

Circuit City has a Max -something-or-other for $20 less, has supposedly a .23 dot pitch, however they displayed it using a blurry video and didn't want to hook it up to a pc for me to preview it...huh...whatever

Sam's Club should have the Sony G400 19" for ~$250. It's item # 132105, and there is a 1-day membership available at http://graphics.samsclub.com/images/guest-pass.jpg. Go into their "click 'n' pull" section and see what Sam's Club near you has the monitor. Not all of them carry it...the closest to me is an hour a way. :(

BTW, check out the Samsung 900NF too, I've heard it's a very good monitor.
