Hey I know that THG isn't really anywhere close to as reliable as AT is, but could you explain why the X2 is WAY slow in the DivX thing??? is it some sort of "cheating" by THG, or some process priority issue, or maybe because the X2 only has 2 cores???

http://www.tomshardware.com/stresstest/charts.html

by the way, those id@#%s at THG should've charted the far cry timedemo to include the # of runs as well since doing the FPS only is misleading. I mean the X2 has run the timedemo 1.5x more than intel.

See this thread.

Once again, THG is doing another BS test.

I don't doubt the 840 is better for DivX encoding, but there is some major reliability issues with their "reviews" if they even deserve to be called that.

zebo is "Gone Fishin' June 4-13th" so you'll have to wait. by the way, did you know the x2 is 12x slower than the pentium d? THG is such a load of 5h1t.

Where did you get that 12x number from?

oh sorry. it more like 17.666 times faster. (look at the dvix test @ the bottom)

You all aren't even reading the caption for the image are you? It's not a performance comparison. It's how much they tested the AMD system vs how much they tested the intel system.

It is because they are runni9ng all the tests at the same time. The AMD is spending all its time on the gaming and winRAR tests and has hardly any time to encode. The Pentium is spreading it out a little better, so its encoding times are better, but the winRAR and ganming suffer a bit...

Remember this is the XE 840 with HT meaning 4 virtual cores...It is no surprise the IOntel may do better the more and more apps you load on...However part of it really has to do with the same old poor thread scheduler of winxp. Intel is doing much poorer in the other areas to work on the encoding...One cuold through simple process priority rearrange this to be more efficient...

the other funny thing is you bastards around here argued against me when I was preaching benefits of Ht and you said no one would run those many things at once...Here we go same instance...same multitaskers likely wont do this much.....

Much audio encodersd are process hungry and dont like to share...It is very conceivable the lame encoder is pretty much using all of the one core....The game is likely (also not a good sharer) is using the other core leaving very little for the other 2 but that winrar can thrive off of the superior memory bandwidth and HDD speed...Divx is truly the last event and probably not characterized by the program or how it is implemented on the desktop as the priority...If anybody has tried multitasking with single core processors you know what I mean...
