Looking for webhosting recommendations

All, my wife is starting a small home-based Internet business and we need two things: fast access and webhosting. In my area (central Florida) the best deal for fast access is cable @$41.95 month. They give you 10MB of personal webspace but after talking to the rep I don't think they want people to run commercial sites (without a more expensive personal account - of course) using their service. That leads me to look for a good webhosting service. We are looking for quality, reliability and yes, cost is a consideration too. Any recommendations? Thanks for your time ...

I've been with Hostworkz.com for a few months. Speed is OK. Support and uptime is excellent. I got 300 MB, 15GB transfer, full array of services and features for less than $100/year.

I use Dathorn and couldnt be happier, but they run about $13 a month for their smallest package. However, I think its well worth it, their forums are very helpful, and once you get the hang of it, the cpanel is excellent!

keep in mind, when choosing a host, less is not always better.

Great advice on both accounts, you get what you pay for is very true.

I use alwayswebhosting.com and it is a solid host. Been with them for about 9 months now and have no plans to leave yet.

I have a friend that is using jatol.com and he says he likes his host a lot. I have been tempted to move to them, but I haven't because my host is awesome.

I'm shocked to hear this from a nagus!

I'd expect something like "You get what you pay for....before rebates, pricematching, and several inane coupons that no one else on earth has access to."

I am helping to manage http://www.wowrack.com. We do not offer the cheapest hosting, but quality and service is certainly number 1 :)

Check us out. Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Hey Rossman... figured I'd go to you first for some leads...

Just found out that my Dixiesys account will be up in June. I want to move off of Dixiesys, I just think they are getting a bit too big, the downtime has been enough of a bother for me, and the speeds aren't all that great. Communication and customer support is pretty good, but the email limit and pricing isn't working out for me anymore.

What I'm looking for is a webhost for my fraternity's chapter site. Pretty much looking for about 200mb of webspace, if I can get more, I'm fine with that =T (mostly for photos and flyers, videos and stuff, I put on my school account to host). So here goes:

200mb storage space
3+ databases
unlimited emails preferred (whether they be Pop3, or forward/aliases)
2gb transfer? I think that's enough...

Anything to recommend that is under $50 a year? I was happy with Dixiesys in the beginning even though their speeds weren't that great, but the downtime is a killer, and I've found that I need a lot more email addresses than Dixiesys offers (even though I could go and ask them for a custom plan, I'd rather just move off). Cheapwebhost.us is around $60 for plan 4...

http://www.solidinternet.com/ looks pretty good... $30 a year, don't know about their reliability though...

dcdomain,

My two Dixiesys accounts are also up for renewal soon and I also think I'll be closing them as well.

I've never heard of solidinternet.com so I did some research on WebHostingTalk.com and found some positive comments about them. Your best bet is to RESEARCH a potential web host before signing up with them. The best place to RESEARCH is the WHT search area, which I have spent countless hours searching and searching ...

Here's a good WHT thread listing Web hosts for under $30/yr.

Wow I just checked out solidinternet's offer 250MB/5GB, UNLIMITED e-mail, AND cPanel for ONLY $29.95/yr!!! AND they're a Myacen company, wow!

I think you found a gold mine, go with it!

Cool cool, I hope their pricing doesn't change by June... I wonder if I can just order one now and not activate it till June to get it out of the way...

I have no personal experience with Myacen (remember I'm an AddAction/dathorn fanboy) but they have a solid reputation on WebHostingTalk.com

Just search for Myacen and you'll find high recommendations such as this and this.

slycat - I think Dixiesys is losing customers left and right which is a shame :(

No CGI is right however look at the price, it's hard to find another offer which will match $30/yr for everything solidinternet.com offers you.

If you want CGI, PHP, Perl, etc. then go with AddAction.net but it's $6.95/mo instead of $30/yr.

Damn I'm tempted to buy an account now, I love these "FREE DOUBLE" promo's.

However I already own part of a Nocster XP1800 server AND have a dathorn.com resellers account.
