Looking For Video Card Suggestions

I currently have two eVGA 7900GT cards and an SLI motherboard. They had been running fine for quite a while, but recently have started crashing.

I've determined that both cards run ok individually, but artifact after a few hours of gaming. When put together in SLI, they just lock up.

I'd like to get something that provides a similar performance as 7900GT in SLI, but I'd like to spend as little money as possible. I don't really need to improve performance much since I have no new games at the moment.

Any recommendations?

They're most likely overheating.

Try removing them from the case and blowing out the heatsinks and fans with compressed air.

They were overclocked (and voltmodded), now I'm running them at a below stock clocks. I've cleaned them and what not.

I should clarify, I'm looking for recommendations on what to purchase - I was thinking a 8800GTS, or maybe a 7950GT.

Why should I get the 8800GTX instead of a 8800GTS?

Also, my old 7900GTs are kinda broken, so I can't sell them.

a used 7950gx2 offers the best price/performance if you can get one for ~$300. otherwise 8800gts is your best bet.

No way I would go for any thing slower than a 8800gts/7950gx2. Your 7900gt's voltmodded had to be very close in speed to a x1950xtx or a 7950gx2. Don't get anything slower," it's just plain dumb".

were you arguing with me or agreeing with me? lol. i dont think a 1950xtx can offer similar performance as 7900gt's in SLI. you'd have to go xfire with older x1900's or like was mentioned above: 8800gts/7950gx2 to spend as little money as possible.

Agreeing I'll edit. better?

Edit: but I do think it's better to buy a 8800gts for 450.00$ then a used 7950gx2 for 350.00$.(which is what there going for). I think putting two gx2 in quad sli is stupid. So i'd buy the 8800gts (directx 10 ) now and another later.

This is why you should get an 8800GTX, instead of either a 7950GX2, or an X1950XTX. The 8800GTS is only a few frames faster than an X1950XTX, depending on the game, of course.

A 8800GTX ($600) is 40% more expensive than a 8800GTS ($430).

Is the GTX 40% faster, I thought it was only like 10-20% faster than a GTS (assuming both are overclocked)

I agree with blackrod, go for the gtx if you can, overclocking headroom on them is pretty damn nice to make that performance gap even wider. If you cant swing that then the GTS is a fine card too. SLI is not worth it at this point.
