I've got an older system that I'm looking to prolong the life of for a bit. I'm a gamer, not totally hardcore, but I like to have a workable system. I'm looking to spend between $150 to $250 at the very top end. Mainly I'm looking to run BF2 as best as is possible.

Anyway, I'm running with an Antec True 430 psu and am running AGP on a 19" viewable CRT.

What would be the best bang for my buck?

New or used?

Latley I've taken to buying used gfx cards off of long time forum members with good "heat".

What CPU & ram you got?

Anyway, I'm thinking 6600GT, 6800GT or x800xl. Haven't done much price checking myself. But think if it's gotta be new the 6600GT can be had for that price. Prolly have to get a used 6800GT to fit in the budget.

Head over to the FS/FT forum and price check these cards to give you an idea of prices

At this point the connect3d x800gto and the new 6800gs series will be your best best. The x800gto's are better if you unlock while the 6800gs's are the equivalent of a 6800gt for less than 200 dollars. :)

Edit: Then there's also my card which 100% unlocks and gets close or past x850xtpe speeds.

X800GTO by Connect3D, unlock it to X850XT speeds.

Otherwise, 6800GS if you got the money, 6600GT if you don't.

That's a rather large price range there. You're basically shopping in three different price levels. Kind of strange. If you want to run BF2 as best as possible, then you're going to want to spend as much as possible, or $250. $250 or less should buy you a used 6800GT easily and maybe an Ultra if you keep your eye out.

You guys sure the 6800GS and X800GTO are AGP cards?

He can't use a PCIe card.

AGP... I'd say a 6800gt or a x800xl would be your best bet. But the supply is running short (at least on the 6800gt it is), so maybe you'll have to get a used one.

"That's a rather large price range there. You're basically shopping in three different price levels. Kind of strange."

Yeah, I realize that, but just look at it as "if I can get away getting a good deal on something for $150 I'd much rather do that than spend my whole $250 wad"

"New or used?"

Prefer new, but would go used if I had a good feeling it wasn't previously beat on etc.

"What CPU & ram you got?"

Athlon XP 2100+ Thoroughbred Socket A 266 MHz w/1 gig Kingston.

Thanks to everyone who has posted, it's very much appreciated.
Question though, is there a big difference in a X800XL and an X800GTO? at Newegg there is a $50-100 differance, but I'm talking purely performance here.

Can an AGP X800GTO be unlocked as well? Or is this a PCI-E phenomenon only somehow?

I'm intrigued by Reiniku's card too though, that would be a hot deal if it really does reach those kinds of speeds at that price EVGA 6600GT can this really be true with it being a 128mb card?

That is the same card that I have been looking to get for my GFs setup... its mainly for the SIMS 2 series... which that card seems to play excellently.

Im not sure about the 128-bit 128mb of vram though. 256mb 256-bit versions are like almost $100 more.
