I play some games and would like to upgrade to DVI. I am looking to spend $170 or so. Should I look at ATI, or Nvidia, and which card?

I suggest an ATI Radeon 9500 128MB non-pro version.
It's around the money you want to give and it has a good performance too.
Plus you may be lucky enough(like me) and be able to softmod it to a Radeon 9700!
Plus it has ATI's guaranteed TV out and 2D quality.

I took one a few days ago and I am pleased so far 🙂
 
I agree.. Check out newegg's Video cards and you'll find Sapphire's Radeon 9500's are in your price range and probably the best bang for the buck.
 
People are also reporting finding 9500pro's for around $160, so shop around. I got my ti4400 for $149, and it doesn't dissappoint.
