Hey guys, much to some posters knocks, I am putting together a P4 system. I am going P4 for a couple of reasons. I currently have a P3 866 on a Asus P3B RDRAM system. In all honesty, it has performed wonderfully. While I can honestly say the RDRAM does not run measurably faster than quality SDRAM, the multitasking stability seems much better. For my use this has been important.
Anyway, here is my dilema....
I currently use the V5 5500 and have become very fond of it's performance. I also own a 32MB GeForce GTS DDR board but have it in my backup due to my preference for the Voodoo's FSAA. As has been well pubicized, the V5 will not work on the Asus P4T or any P4 motherboard due to it's lack of 1.5 volt support and associated connector.
So, I am very curious. Of course, I can just switch back to my NVidia or look at another option. If I look at other options, here are my questions...
Does getting a 64 MB GeForce really make a difference?
If it does, does the Pro or Ultra make an even bigger difference?
The answer to these first two questions may "seem" obvious, but is it noticable in gameplay. (Not just benchmarks.)
Is the Radeon a serious alternative? I was bummed when I last tried ATI. It was a Rage Fury. It looked good, but was an under performer.
I'm looking for serious answers from users who have tried these board options for themselves. I have purchased before based on Gamesite reviews and have been disapointed, which is why I am posting here.
I am not looking to be flamed for my decision to try a P4. Look at it this way, my feedback once up and running can add credence to those who attack it, or add useful info to those who may consider it.
The deal was not a bad one, so "I" think it's worth a try. I already own 256MB of RDRAM, the P4 cost me $450 and the motherboard $200.
Anyway, the games I run most often are: UT, Flight Sim 2000, Links LS 2001, NFS
orche, NHL 2001, FAKK, Rune and Alice.
Thanks in advance for input guys.....
