Like the title says, I am looking for an AGP card to run dual Flat Panel?s at 1600x1200, and I would like for it NOT to have a fan. I occasionally watch DVD. I will be dumping my GF3 Ti500, as I haven?t had time to game since last summer :-( and I need dual setup for work.

What are your recommendations?

TIA

The new GF FX 5200 is fanless and supports dual-DVI; I believe the Radeon 9000 or 9200 does as well. Although the FX says Dual-DVI support, the ones I've seen so far have been 1 x DVI and 1 x Analog --> DVI. I think the same is true for the Radeons.

Here's a list by SUOrangemen for more ideas.

The only consumer-level cards I know that have true dual-DVI output is the Matrox Parhelia and one of the GF4 Ti4600's (gainward's maybe?). Also, some of Asus' new FX cards may have dual-DVI. I'd check that list though, as I haven't put much time into researching it (I'm waiting for an NV35 or 9800pro dual-DVI solution).

I have been looking at the Asus V9180, but I am not sure if it will run both at 1600x1200. Anyone know...?

That would great actually. I am trying to figure out which model would run dual DVI at 16x12...

Damn, you're demanding a lot! You're going to have a tough time finding a Dual-DVI 16x12 fanless card. Something's gotta give, either the 16x12 dual or the fan.

The Matrox G550 DualDVI edition supports up to 1280x1024 on both lines, and has no fan. Add to that excellent DVD and the best 2D of a consumer-level card (yes, even the Parhelia!) and you've got one hell of a card waiting for you if you're willing to drop resolution.

If you're willing to take a fan, I'd suggest one of the workstation-class cards, such as a FireGL or Quadro card. I'll look for some recommendations for those, as I don't tend to keep those laying around. :p

Edit - Most of the workstation cards in question needs AGP Pro. The FireGL4 fits the bill, but also demands two slots for cooling and a US$400 tagline. My advise is to make a compromise somewhere unless you've got excess cash to burn.

Hehe not to mention the cost of the Panels that would allow for 1600x1200. :Q:Q:Q

That's one hell of a rig for Excel on one panel and solitaire/AIM on the other. ;)

The card has to be able to do 1600x1200 since that is the native resolution of the LCD's. I was hoping to avoid getting a card with a fan, but if it has to be, so be it.

I need desktop space for work, and LCD's are easier on the eyes....Dell 2000FP @ $720 each (New)

Have you considered an AGP and PCI card together? You'd get two DVI outputs and might find it easier to get 1600x1200 on both. If you went that route, I'd stick to the same mfg. so that the software integration would be better.

Edit: Yep, I use a 1900FP at home and a 2000FP at work, which is why I commented on the cost of the panels necessary for 1600x1200. ;)

The problem with that is that all 5 PCI slots are being used :-(

My reply got lost for some reason.. To sum it up quickly - I THOUGHT that my g550 supported 1600x1200- maybe I'm mistaken.. Since you are obviously using this system for critical applications (one of your LCDs cost more than my entire computer system), I suggest biting the bullet and buying a good, high quality ati or matrox card and then modifying the cooling system on it with a quiet after market fan.. Some of these are totally silent IMHO... Since money doesn't seem to be an issue maybe you can use water cooling - I don't do it myself but I'm sure you can pay a local dweeb to set everything up for you :)

Thanks

In a word - no. I don't think the Parhelia can handle it either, I'm afraid.

I think the 1600x1200 requirement is going to limit you to a workstation-class card. However, since you're buying two 2000FPs, money doesn't seem to be an issue. :p

I am having a tough time finding details for the primary and secondary display resolutions for most of the cards I have looked at so far. This is going to take more time then I though?

I might be in the same situation quite soon... who are the contenders for a dual dvi 16x12 card period?

As far as I know the only consumer grade card that will do 1600x1200 on both displays and has 2 DVI outputs is Gainwards Geforce 4 ti 4600, it does have a Fan though. Hope this helps.... :)

You can put a Zalman cooler on it to make it silent.

I just got a refurb Gainward Ti4600 from NewEgg. I think it can do 16x12, but t has a fan (a small one though).
