the one I have is great for carpet but sucks ass on hardwood floors, was looking at the Dysons, I know they own (even if they cost too much) wondering what people here use? renting a room with a hardwood floor and want something that's good for hardwood floors and has attachments so I can also do walls/ceilings.

haha I didn't say I was going to buy one man, I'm actually looking at a Bosch Canister one but can't find any reviews of it.

Dyson. Nothing beats it. Just go get one.

Be careful with it though around your trim. It's so powerful it might just rip it right off the wall.

I have a lot of hardwood and tile flooring in my house. A normal vacuum just doesn't do the job. I've used the Hoover Floor Mate for probably 4 years now. It really does work as advertised. It's easy enough to just vacuum the floor with it, but you can practically polish the floors with the cleaner.

Anyway, I'd get this along with a normal vacuum for carpets. For that, I too would go with a Dyson.

you need to baby hardwood floors, you need a vac that has a setting for hardwood/tile..the beater bar raises up and doesn't scratch the floor.

I use mine on the hose setting with the soft brush attachment, I've also got an orange glo hardwood floor set that includes a fleece type pad that can double as a dust mop.

That's why I suggest a canister vac without a powerhead. Just a simple floorhead like a shop vac uses. Afterwards, you can use a Swifter Wet Jet.

from what I understand dyson came from europe where most of their floors are not carpet, therefore I believe consumer reports usually ranks them pretty good on hardwoods.

After a little Googling, it looks like some Dysons have a hardwood mode as well. Nice. The floor mate still does a wet clean which makes a very significant difference, but it's still nice.

Any vacuum that has an attachment without a moving brush. A moving brush on hardwood makes the dirt fly around most of the time. All you need to do is suck up dust, hair, etx. Every so often you have to watsh it to get the built up dirt off. We use a swiffer thing for that every so often.

Yes it does, it shuts off the beater bar. I have one and it does good. we also have one of those hoover floormates, which does good per the wife.

Roomba?

Put suction cups on its wheels, or else harvest the ultrafine hairs off of the feet of geckos and equip the wheels with them. Then it'll also take care of you walls and ceilings.
