Looking for utility to diagnose startup program problems

When I cold-boot my Win 8.1 system, it often hangs during Windows' loading of startup programs. Sometimes I have to reboot three or four times. Soft boots work flawlessly, everything loads as it should.

Does anyone know of a utility that would allow me to monitor the loading of the startup programs so I can figure out which one is hanging up?

Had similar problem with 8.1 Cold boot and would load up to a point then hang. Using the start button to shut down. Restart and it would boot up ok. sfc/scannow showed errors that couldn't be fixed.

Ran DISM restorehealth and that showed that it couldn't fix some errors. On rebooting Windows installed a couple of updates and sfc/scannow worked and showed no errors.

PC boots up ok now.

Might not be your problem, though, but worth looking at.

Hit ctrl+L shift + ESC (task manager), then under the startup tab, you will see 'startup impact'.
So, they tell you now. 🙂

Didn't solve the problem, but found and repaired some corruption, so thanks.
