I'm looking for an upgrade from a Zenfone 2, mostly to give incentive to my mom to switch to Cricket Wireless and save her $30/month on her family plan vs. T-Mobile... Currently, my plan is to buy the Zenfone Zoom because it has a better speaker, and maybe slightly better camera, and the Zenfone 2 is fast enough, so no reason to go with a higher performing device, although it would be nice... My brother would get the Zenfone 2, which leaves only one phone to change to be able to go to Cricket Wireless. Eh, probably a Moto E and be done with it. I should mention my brother and my mom are currently on Lumia 521 phones.
Are there better alternatives to consider, however? I want the Zenfone Zoom because I'm a fan of ASUS phones and mobile Intel CPUs, albeit Intel isn't in that market anymore. Will the Zenfone Zoom be discontinued in late May, when the Zenfone 3 gets announced? That's the key right there, I need to be able to buy in August, and I don't want a used phone.
This also assumes I don't decide on finishing a build based around a Xeon E5-2670, which I got cheap, but it all depends on if I can find an X79 motherboard.
