I read the sticky here about hardware suggestions for various builds on this site but it seems a little out of date perhaps. I am looking to build a rather general use but FAST system that will remain so for a few years if possible. I don't need cutting edge but perhaps last months cutting edge hardware. I am not a gamer but would like the ability to play at a reasonably fast speed should I decide to. It's been a few years since I built my last Intel based E8400 Duo computer on a socket 775 platform. I would like to stay under a $1000 after rebates if possible. I do some mild overclocking. I will reuse my HP2207H monitor.

I need a new mid tower case as well.
The first option on sale now is the COOLER MASTER HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP

The second option is for an Antec 900 currently on sale at Newegg.

Any thoughts on these cases or a good under $100 after rebates mid tower case with external USB and audio ports?

As far as the rest of my system I would love to get an i7 based system but not sure if it's possible at my price range. Some of my favorite mobo makers are Asus and Gigabyte but they seem a bit pricey now. I've been out of the tech loop for a few years and admittedly have some catching up to do on hardware. I don't really do any CPU intensive stuff other than a little DVD ripping and editing. Maybe some audio conversion on occasion.

If anyone knows of a site with a recently updated under $1000 Intel based rig(preferably with i7-920 CPU) could you post a link please? Please be gentle if I posted something the wrong way here.....I have done numerous searches but have yet to find something really up to date without some cheap quality board...Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

You can't go wrong with either case.
Just today, I bought the 900 for my next build due to the front panel fire wire, the 922 has front panel e-sata. Also the 900 is a bit smaller which is better for my application.
You and I are in the same boat, " I've been out of the tech loop for a few years and admittedly have some catching up to do on hardware".
Good luck and keep us posted.
