Yup, its yet another music thread from yours truly. This time, I don't want any nice wholesome death metal or speed/thrash. This time I am looking for songs with what you consider to be the perfect guitar solo. Now for me, the ideal solo would last several minutes. It would start out slow and pure, then quickly evolve into a furious crescendo of split-second notes, cascading up and down the scale, with more than a few complicated licks and intricate loops. For example, imagine it starting off like the solo from GnR's "November Rain" (the one that starts at 6:15 or so) and then goes to a nice frenzied wail a la Metallica's "One" and then ends with a haunting melody, such as the one found in Metallica's "Fade to Black" or Joe Satriani's "A Piece of Liquid." Rock, Metal, and Blues are welcome here. I just want to hear some really nice guitar solos.

Nope, you're all wrong. :p Has to be Lynyrd Skynyrd's live version of Free Bird. Of course, the guitar in ELO's Fire On High is very good as well, though short.

Check these:
Metallica - One
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Metallica - And Justice For All
Freebird -- I had to include that one :)

Those are all good. Most of the stuff I listen to doesn't rely on solos to make the song though. Everytime I hear the solo to One, I get chills though.

agnitrate: thanx, but being the diehard Metallifan that I am, I of course know and love those songs. :)

rallispec: great minds think alike, eh? Well, apparently so do ours as well! :p

Masas: downloading now, thanx

Zenmervolt: ditto

Nothing specific for you but, for bluesy stuff check out Eric Clapton, for rock, VanHalen/Eddie VanHalen, for southern rock check out The Outlaws, guy named Hughie Thomasson. I think The Outlaws are strictly c/w now, but they used to be southern rock. The have a song, Green Grass and High Tides Forever. It is like 30 minutes long and it rocks.

Pink Floyd - Sorrow is an awesome solo song.
Comfortably Numb also has a few sweet solos, but they're not really really long.

SRV - Pride and Joy is awesome as well.

Definitely check out Sorrow though. I think an official tab is available for the solo too.

How about Eddie Van Halen's Eruption
And one I can listen to over and over , but not very long , White Lion's version of Radar Love, I love the
guitar solo in that one.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Little Wing.

Doesn't get much better than that.

Also, a bit of trivia regarding Eruption by Eddie Van Halen. There's actually a mistake in the solo. I believe he slips somewhere, but I read in an interview very long ago that it's something that still bothers him to this day when he hears it.

I always hear folks tout SRV's version of Little Wing, but I really really prefer Hendrix's.

How? Hendrix's version is just over 2 minutes with like a 10 second solo while SRV's is 6 minutes of all guitar.

Unless you mean the song itself, because then Hendrix's is always better. He made it. The solos, in my opinion, can't really be compared.

I always liked the guitar solo in "sweet child o'mine" by GNR...........and the solo in "Anarchy in the UK" by Sex Pistols...but I guess those are too short for what you're looking for.....

Don't forget Neil Young.
He has lots fo good guitar work that seems a bit different from lots of the other stuff I hear from other rockers.
But, as I don't play guitar, I could not tell you why or how he is playing it.

My pick would have to be some unmentioned ones:

the solo to "Life Goes On" by C.C. deVille(Poison)
"I Remember You" by Scotti Hill (Skid Row)
Almost anything done by Nuno Bettencourt on Extreme's "Pornograffiti" album
