Looking for the MP3/WAV player with the smallest CPU utilization

Particularly for use on older machines, I'm looking for the program that will handle a veritable buttload of Mp3's while doing other semi-intensive things (on the computer ;) ). Have used Winamp a bit in the past, but I'm not sure where to jump in version-wise. 2.something or 3?

I'll probably use Musicmatch for ripping and organizing. Granted the quality isn't the best out there, but it does do a good job as an all-in-one solution.

Any suggestions?

I'd stay away from Winamp3 at all costs. Personally, I use Winamp v2.81 and my CPU usage usually stays between 0-2% when playing MP3s.

You might check out Coolplayer. It's a very simple player that doesn't require an install. It's small and fast, but just doesn't have all the features of Winamp.
