This is not for me, but for my stepfather for Christmas. He loves Flight Sims and is really good at them so learning curve and challenge is not an issue. However, what he wants is one that will work with some kind of joystick and the game needs to be compatible with both Windows and Mac. I am told that he will be getting a new Mac laptop soon and I do not know the specs although I might be able to find out. My concern is obviously whether or not the game will be able to run decently well on the machine.

Anyways, any recommendation on what game to get will be very much appreciated.

I guess the MS one is the newest one that i know of. It's pretty resource heavy from what I understand os it might not run well on a laptop.

Well there's flight sims based on civilian planes and military ones. For civilian flight sims there's MS FlightSim X and X-Plane. They're both pretty resource heavy though. You can turn down the detail settings but much of the "immersiveness" is lost due to the low detailed world.

For military sims a few of the recent ones are Lock On and Falcon 4 based on modern planes. They're older titles so many of the recent machines out now should handle them fine. For WWII era sims there's IL-2 and MS Combat FlightSim.

As for working with Macs I have no idea but you can search the titles and find out.
