What do you use your computer for? Gaming? Are you planning to overclock? What is your budget? What kind of processor do you have (or are you going to get?)

there are alot of great mobos out there, but these are some questions you need to answer to get the best advice. And there is some good advice in this forum!

Gaming... All the way, but i am not into overclocking cause I never fiddled with that kinda stuff, budget isnt much of an issue, I'd say i am gonna go on 3 grand for my new system, gonna get a new AMD prob not the fastest chip, but a barton sounds nice, maybe there is a pentium mobo that may be better? I don know, been using AMD for many years now.

The Asus A7N8X was the motherboard I was going to get before I decided to go for an Intel based system. Lots of retailers are making Athlon based systems with mobos based on the NForce 2 chipset and with good reason. Checkout the test results on http://www.amd.com for the XP 3000+ which uses the A7N8X.

HOLY @#%*. Your budget is 3K?? I could build 2 really high end computers for that!!! You are gonna have a heckuva system.

NForce2 mobo is the way to go. ASUS, EPOX, ABIT all make good boards. Get the best, most expensive AMD processor (OEM) and cooling should be no object...wanna do water?

Anyway, have fun!

Man, 3 grand to spend... wish I could do that :frown:. Anyway, since you have that much money and you're in for a gaming system, I'd have to actually recommend a P4 w/ HT. I love AMD and all, but the truth is that HT allows for a P4 to run much better in games due to their fairly linear code.

Saying that, I'm not really big on the Intel boards so let someone else recommend that all for you. The only thing I'd say is don't get anything that uses rambus.

If you still want to go AMD, then the A7N8X Delux has been shown to be the fastest board out of the nForce2 set, and the nForce2 chipsets have been shown to dominate all others for now. Then get some Corsair XMS and an XP 2500+ and you have a nice little system there. Add in an Audigy 2 and a 9700 Pro and you have a pretty nice gaming rig, hell, you have a pretty nice rig period.

But I still gotta end with, the P4 will give you better game performance straight out so if you want the fastet frame rates and such, go that route.

Simply put the most feature filled motherboard is the Asus A7N8x Dlx. I use it and its great. Going off topic like the last guy. THe hands down most superior motherboard in the p4 camp is the Asus P4G8x Dlx. <--However in this case the best but not most bang for buck. My fav P4 Mobo....Asus P4PE Black Pearl. :) Lol these are just the best for 2 I am not an Asus fanboy. However if you can wait I think there is a super Nforce2+ or something coming out and I'm hearing things already about new chipsets for P4 i.e. Canterwood/Springdale. As for video you might look at Radeon 9800 Pro 128/256 mb...or Radeon 9700 AIW....GeForce FX is still a good card but has alot of issues...but I am eagerly anticipating NV35. Ok enough with my ramble about future releases hehehe...I was about to start on Prescott and Hammer.

This is the board I went for with a P4 3.06Ghz. It's on it's way to me as I type. I'm waiting for the postman to arrive so I can jump on him like a nasty dog.
