HI I just found 92mm Fans that are very quiet 23db and push 35.9CFM of air. Right now I have FOP 32 cpu fan on my Tbird 1.2, and its TOO noisy for me. I think it is 36db .... I am able to mount 92mm Fan on my current CPU heatsink ( now I have 60mm fan on it), but I am affraid that the air from 92mm fan won't cool the heatsink enough since the Fan is bigger then heatsink...

Where can I find VERY large heatsinks for socket A CPUs....... I want to place 92mm fan on it

Little specs:

FOP 32-1

36db
26CFM

POST 90mm

23db
35CFM

I personally haven't seen any 92mm heatsinks.. If all else fails, get an 80mm heatsink and an 80mm>92mm fan adapter.. I've been considering this myself..

Ditto, what I have been considering is to use a 80mm fan grill (92mm in your case) as an adaptor. I've seen it done but can't remember which site it's in.

ax-7 + vantec stealth 80 mm

21dba / 27cfm cools great. there really isnt a need to go as high as 92mm imo.

Before, I was able to install 92mm fan , by first attaching 92mm grill on the heatsink and then just screw the Fan on top of the grill.. But I am wondering how well will the 92mm Fan cool the heatsink, since the heatsink is smaller.. I am affraid that the Fan will blow air around the heatsink, and not on top of it....... I know there are BIG heatsinks, that you screw into the motherboard, ( not attaching to the CPU holder), but I was unable to find them yet.......

I found a 60mm->90mm converter made from alluminium.. It costs $26 at www.directron.com .. If I won't find a large heatsink , I think I will go with this...

Thx for your input guys

The big heatsinks that bolt to the motherboard instead of using the socket cleats are:

Alpha PAL8045
Swiftech MC462 and variants
Zalman CNP5000+

The first two use 80mm fans, however. The third one, I'm not sure. Either a 60 or 80mm fan. But no 92mms.

bobbybob,

the way i have done it is to take an old, dead 60mm fan, and push out all the blade mechanism, until you are left with just the outer casing. Then, take your 92mm fan, and in some way (i used duct tape) go round 2 edges of the 60mm case with the tape, and then push a corner of the 92mm fan into this tape. Then, attach the 60mm casing to the heatsink, and move it up so that the peices of metal that hold the 60mm fan on have one edge over the edge of the heatsink, and the other one in the second slot from the other side.

This way, you have enough gap between the fan and heatsink so that the whole heatsink is covered, and it also goes down the sides of the heatsink like it didn't before, cooling that, and if you position it right you can also cool your RAM or north bridge at the same time.

As i said before, if you PM me i will explain in more detail, and i can walk you through it :)

I will go with this adapter I guess
ALUV2.gif

This adapter will make sure that the air from 92mm fan will blow on top of the heatsink and not around it...

Also is there a difference between 90mm and 92mm ??? I think that holes for screws should be in the same place.. Is this the same FAN??, just the blades are longer, shorter by 2mm, but the FAN casing is the same ?????
