Looking for switch recommendations

I recently purchased a new house (much larger than my previous house and pre wired for cat6).

Here is what I have to consider:
  • 12 Cat6 runs to rooms
  • 2 Xclaim Xi-3 Access Points (PoE - 10.5 Watts max)
  • 10 Unifi Cameras (PoE - varies from 3 @ 3.2W, 6 @ 4.5W and 1 @ 12.5W)
  • The switch will reside in the back of the 'his' closet in the master bedroom, so noise and heat should be considered.
  • House has 1Gbps internet service (fiber optic with an ActionTec T2200H gateway)
  • Would like to limit the cost to $500, but could stretch up to $750-800 if beneficial
  • I do work out of my home and remotely connect to an office VPN

Currently, I have identified 2 prosumer/SOHO options, but open to other ideas:
1 - Cisco SG200-26P
2 - Ubiquiti Edgeswitch 24-250W

I am advanced novice in networking. Also, I will be adding a Synology/QNAP 4 bay NAS in the future (which I believe I should put on a separate switch for network bandwidth issues - this will also host files that will stream from my Plex server).

Any recommendations/tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!

What types of devices will be on the network besides what you have listed? How many computers/tablets/phones/tvs/etc. Also what what will be hard wired vs wireless?

We will have
2 desktop PCs, 1 is a high bandwidth user (multiple gigs per day in file transfers for work). - hardwired
2 laptops (1 PC 1 Macbook) - wireless
3 tablets - wireless
2 smart phones - wireless
4 smart tvs - 2 hardwired 2 wireless
3 streaming devices (amazon fire stick tvs/roku) - wireless
1 PS4 - wireless
1 Xbox One - wireless (but may go wired)
10 Unifi cameras w/ DVR - wired - POE
1 HD DVR receiver (low consumption) - wired

We currently consume about 500-600gb of bandwidth a month, but that may be increasing soon.

It sounds like the majority of your action will be on the wireless network during peak usage and your AP's are POE so focus on getting a smaller POE switch 12-16 ports and get a cheaper plain old switch for the regular wired network. Do you plan on enabling the wireless on your ActionTec T2200H?

Dont know where you live but might be worth spending some money to also get a UPS for all the network gear.

I do not plan on using the ActionTec T2200H wireless. In fact, I wish they'd allow me to use a different modem, but it's a fairly new fiber optic service and they are only supporting that gateway. I prefer to keep all of my network actions separated, as much as possible and the Xclaim Xi-3's seem to be be handling our wifi congestion fairly well.

So you think a 12-16 port PoE Switch and another 8-12 port regular switch would be the best way to go? Also, if I go that route, would it be a bad idea in the future to plug the NAS into the regular switch with the desktop and other minor device traffic?

We're in Tennessee, and I'm planning to get a UPS to at least keep the network afloat for 30-45 minutes, in the event of a minor power outage. Also, thinking about the Tesla Powerwall in the future, when they are available.

I appreciate your comments.

It really doesn't matter where you plug in the NAS because you arent maxing out the bandwidth. Based on the fact that most of your activity is going to be over the internet I woudnt go crazy with buying high end switches. Do you plan on recording the surveillance video?

Yes, cameras will be stored and I plan on backing them up somewhere on the cloud as well (probably biweekly on a schedule during non peak times)
