Looking for suggestions on places to go on vacation

I am thinking of going on a weeks vacation with my kids this August and would welcome some thoughts. I have been to the theme parks so I dont want to do that again. I was thinking of taking them to Cancun. Is it safe there? I have been to Acapulco long ago and it was fine for me. I was thinking of some kind of resort that has water sports/activities. Texas coast? Mexico? It has to also be somewhat reasonable. I have some points with Hyatt/Hawthorn Suites chains so I would use them 1st and pay for any extra nights. Thanks
 
August is going to be miserably hot/humid most any place you go. Orlando, San Antonio, Miami, all of Mexico, Hawaii.

No chance I'd take my kids to the sleazeball touristy areas in Mexico. Drunk teens are no fun to be around. Hawaii is much more family friendly.

Southern California would be nice. Some themeparks, water-parks, ocean beaches......
