Hi, I have been searching for a reliable and stable motherboard for p4 1.7 478 pin CPU. I purchased a FIC VC11 motherboard, however, it has been crashing constantly. Therefore I am researching for other options. I am mainly looking for the ones with onboard LAN.

It s a relatively knew platform so it may be a little to early to tell...The best you can do is read the reviews...

Anandtech has listed top 3

1)Gigabyte Ga-8IRXP
2)Msi Ultra ARU (the one I am getting since anandtech had it as best stable ocer)
3) Soyo I think

I think other sites have listed Asus P4B266 as a good board as well

The MSI Ultra has usb 2.0 and ata133 controller, asus does not have both and MSI is about 15 bucks cheaper...

ASUS P4B266, MSI 845 Ultra (no lan), and Gigabyte 8IRXP are all excellent boards. I am probably going with the P4B266 myself with a northwood to overclock. I like the P4B266 because it seems to be able to run stable at extremely high FSB, so that should take the MB out of the equation, as long as the rest of the components can handle it. 178FSB here and 172FSB here. There is supposed to be a version of the P4B266 with onboard Lan, but I have not seen it for sale yet. If you want one today with onboard lan I would recommend the Gigabyte 8IRXP.

Thank you for the suggestions. Looks like Gigabyte motherboard seems to be a good choice. However, from what I read from the board, there is a reboot problem with the Gigabyte GA-8IRXP motherboard recently? Is it confrimed? Does any of theses motherboard support front-side USB plug?

Really, any 845 (D or non D version) will be very stable. So you can't go wrong with any of them. I personally like the MSi 845 Ultra ARU, Gigabyte 8IRXP, and Asus P4B266
