Looking for speakers for a generic MP3 player

My mom asked for a set of iPod speakers for Christmas... but she has no iPod. She's got some generic 2gb MP3 player, which is plenty for her. I'd invest in an iPod or other high end media player if I thought she'd be able to tell the difference, but that's not the case. Is there any decent-sounding battery-powered semi-portable speakers that I'd be able to get her?

I can't really find much as far as this type of product goes. Anyone have any experience with good ones?

Thanks!

Any 2.0 computer speakers will work just fine.

Well I don't know of many battery powered computer speakers, so I thought your suggestion was for those little POS ones that aren't powered off anything other than a 3.5mm stereo jack and whatever power it can output.

Ah, by the time I Started typing I had forgotten about the battery powered requirement. Hey....a sonic T-amp can be battery powered 😀

It sure can be.

Mine's been acting up (actually, since I got it it's been acting up), so I'm thinking about getting a replacement amp. 😛

Not going to be easy. The device you are looking for is going to be a balance of generally, the following three things.

1. Sound Quality of unit
2. Portability of unit (Battery/AC, Small/Large)
3. Price of unit

Most small units sound like crap due to small drivers, low power/compromised enclosures
Most larger units sound better (less compromised design), cost much more, are not very portable

My choice would be a larger design that can output much higher volumes so that your mom can hear her music from a couple rooms away.

Something like the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0 system would be at the top of my list.
