looking for SOTWARE to query the log

We are using solaris 9,sendmail and i want to query the maillog that matches the pattern and the data should then be displayed some thing like a logsearching , did find mail access monitor a bit similar to what i wanted but was not able to work with that any software u can suggest that would be of any help !

Somthing like indexing the file and then displaying the result any thing close to that what i need would be of help

cause splunk has many features which we may not use..
any other software with less features will do
